My interview with Laura Sperry Gardner

I had the pleasure of chatting with Laura Sperry Gardner. Check out our interview below. And don’t forget to check out the book BLUE RIDGE BABIES 1, 2, 3

Your beautiful picture book BLUE RIDGE BABIES 1, 2, 3, features the Blue Ridge Mountains? Have you ever been there? Can you tell us about it?

Laura: I live in the Blue Ridge mountains of western North Carolina. One famous part of this mountain range is the Blue Ridge Parkway. My family and I went on a road/camping trip about 5 years ago where we followed the BRP from one end to another. It was so lovely — the mountain vistas, lush forests, and such a wide variety of animals!

This book features a variety of animals. Do you have a favorite animal?

Laura: I have a special place in my heart for squirrels — they are playful and energetic. I love how athletic and endearing they are. My favorite variety is the white squirrel in my hometown of Brevard. They are not albinos, because they have dark eyes and sometimes even a dark patch on top of their heads. They’re magical, like unicorns.

Now it’s time for some fun get to know you questions —

Favorite outdoor hobby?

Laura: Hiking and gardening are tied.

Favorite pizza toppings?

Laura: Mushrooms, onions, and black olives. With extra cheese.

Favorite season?

Laura: Spring — despite the pollen.

Favorite flower?

Laura: Daffodil. That bright yellow in early spring is so cheerful!

Favorite type of weather?

Laura: Sunny and about 70 degrees.

Finally, in 20 words or less, tell us anything you want us to know about BLUE RIDGE BABIES 1, 2, 3

Laura: A story set to song, this delightful peek at animal childhood will enchant young readers and grow with them.
